• Elliot Jacobs, Awards winning retailer

    Early years

With a passion for creative selling, Elliot made his first sales in the school playground, trading 5.25″ floppy disks for cash. From these early sales he soon went on to supplying teachers, pupils and parents. By the age of 16 he had set up his first company.

The taste for entrepreneurial life had begun! Whilst tinkering with his fledgling business, he also took a Saturday job at his local office supplies store, where he continued to work for 3 years at weekends and holidays, learning the business from the shop floor perspective.

Elliot trained as an actor at both the National Youth Music Theatre and Mountview Conservatoire for the Performing Arts. On leaving school, he went to work in the software industry working for a start-up, and then moved to Maxis Inc. (Electronic Arts Inc) to work on the ‘Sim’ brand as European Channel Marketing Manager. Here he was responsible for in-store marketing across all major resellers throughout Europe. Elliot then took the role as UK Sales Manager for Intuit (the makers of the best-selling accounts software Quicken and QuickBooks) until one day he met up with the owners of the offices supplies store he had first worked in as a schoolboy and was offered the chance to buy-out the business.

After one year, Elliot secured the deal and set about restructuring, re-branding it as “UOE” and renovating the operation to fit with his vision of the future of office products.
Shortly after, he set up the company’s commercial division (UOE B2B), which grew year on year organically and through a series of acquisitions of competitors. In 2019, he sold the commercial division to Quills Group in an all cash sale in order to focus on the retail and Post Office franchise model that he had developed.

    Here and now

Fast forward to today, and Elliot is always looking for entrepreneurial ways to drive positive change across his business interests.

With a solid understanding of retail markets and the High Street, Elliot rarely ‘sits on his laurels’ and has an open approach to developing his business interests. Whilst his intuition and skills help him identify new opportunities, Elliot is research and data driven when scoping business plans. In short, when he spots a gap in the market Elliot ensures that he has all available information before making a decision and committing to a new direction, product line or brand.

Elliot is usually found in the centre of his business, dedicating equal time to working ‘on’ and ‘in’ it. He believes that the best way to ensure that his high customer service standards are maintained throughout his chain of stores, is to regularly go ‘back to the floor’ and work alongside his team – leading and inspiring them on a daily basis.

Not only is this approach good for morale, it ensures that Elliot’s knowledge of his customers is always current, and he has a deep rooted understanding of their needs and pain points.

A firm believer in hard work, creativity and innovation, these values shine through in his award winning business portfolio.
